For the benefit of a couple of readers, I thought I'd post something of one of my favourite pre-modernist architects. While I don't believe the renaissance and neo-classical styles (etc) have any place in modern architecture - it doesn't mean I can't appreciate them.

This was a group project in the 3rd year of my degree at Manchester School of Architecture. We chose the Philharmonie primarily because our lecturer thought it was a good idea, but as we visited and especially when we attended a concert there, the quality of the building really showed itself. This has become one of my all time favourite buildings. What appears so complex in plan and section is remarkably clear when in person. The whole building is designed around the flow of people attending concerts and recitals. This really was a revolutionary design, and although it has been copied widely, I'm not sure it has been bettered.
